Ngantweni, Uzuzakhe - East London City Hall


So for me this is the space that inspires me. Home to the statue of Steve Biko and the City hall of my home town, East London. As we see in the picture above, it is a peaceful place, but can be very loud and rowdy as shown in the one below. The diversity in the people, the activities and in the culture around the City Hall is amazing in that you see a community of people around it.
  


I don't like only the physical building and its precise design, but the street itself conforms to those qualities expressed by Mark Francis and Allan Jacobs regarding Democratic and Great Streets respectively. This is also near the Library so we see young people actually engage in their historical and memorial priveledges.

  1. Maryam-You have mentioned the diversity of people and activities in this area as well as touching on the historical aspect associated with it.Are these the elements that form a basis to label a street as being Democratic and Great?
